Virtual Exploration of the Miniature Kingdom

Our challenge was to enhance the Miniature Kingdom experience, boost engagement and attract new visitors. The solution: a captivating virtual tour for their website, Google Maps and Oculus 2 VR headsets.

The Client and Their Challenges

Nestled in Kungsör, Sweden, the Miniature Kingdom displays a detailed model railroad that showcases famous Swedish landmarks at a 1:87 scale. Seeking to elevate engagement, the museum team wanted their visitors to experience their displays in-depth and to uncover hidden gems that the naked eye might miss.

Journey to Realization

Camera Choices: Traditional DSLR cameras were too bulky for the miniature scenes. We adopted the compact Insta360 ONE X for detailed shots and the Insta360 GO 2 to capture videos of train journeys.

Quality First: Maintaining image quality without DSLR cameras was a challenge. With strategic lighting and advanced software like Topaz AI, we ensured crisp images.

3D Printed Parts: To ensure our cameras fit perfectly on the model train and captured the desired angles, we custom designed and 3D printed mounting parts.

Adding Realism: We integrated actual sky patterns, offering a touch of the real world to the miniature.

Thrilling Experiences: The VR mode offers overhead flights, letting visitors soar above the miniature world.

Impressive Results

Online Engagement: After our virtual tour integration, the Miniature Kingdom website witnessed a remarkable 62% increase in traffic. Additionally, the virtual tour on Google Maps earned over 86 thousand views in under a year.

Physical Attendance: The summer following our project’s completion marked a record number of visitors to the Miniature Kingdom. This success was not just numerical; the museum also received the prestigious “Årets Besöksmål” (Visitor Attraction of the Year) award in Västra Mälardalen.

VR Adoption: The addition of Oculus 2 VR headsets at the museum proved to be a massive hit. Visitors, especially children, were enthralled by the immersive experience. Surprisingly, the headsets withstood constant use without any issues, emphasizing the robustness of our integration.

Fantastic work. Lots of labour and love has been put into this exhibition. Lots of tongueincheek humour. Work in Progress, also you can visit the exhibition in scale 1:1 through VRheadsets. Well worth a visit, a hidden gem.

Very cool! Nice to see how much soul they put into building the miniature world. Cool with VR headset to travel around the miniature world. Good with a small playground for the children and the small cafe.
